Whangawehi planting week end

Hi all,

Kirsty and Josh, new Managers on Taharoa Trust, welcome the wider community for a day out planting. The trees have arrived today and are looking exceptionally healthy and ready to be put in the ground. As usual, the Whangawehi team will dig the holes and lay the trees so that you just have to turn up and plant. There is a good variety of natives that will enhance the biodiversity of our catchment. A barbecue will be provided on site.

Please check for updates as the event may be postponed to the following Saturday if the weather is not suitable.

The site is at walking distance from the closer car park.

Site address : 1637 Mahia East Coast Road-

Date : Saturday 4th of May- 8.30 start, just turn up when you can. See you there.

A day out with the aunties at Mangaharuru

On Saturday 16th of February, I had the pleasure of driving Sophie Dodd, Rae Te Nahu and Toria Te Nahu to a blessing ceremony organised by Mangaharuru Tangitu Trust. The day went extremely well with the unveiling of a Pou Whenua and the blessing of a funeral site for birds. The WCMG attended a similar event in 2015. It was good to see the project progressing well with birds returning to the colony. Maybe one day, a similar project could take place in the catchment.

Music to start when first people arrive. Approx 11.30am

Awesome event thanks & well done to organisers It would be great if there were mountain bikes payable local clubs ran support letting people use their clubs bikes, like Adventure Wairoa. people could use on the day at no cost to them to draw more people including tangata whenua. It would be good also to promote the event more to local Marae and people like those who run fitness programmes for Maori like Patu & Iron Maori local crews. Massive event, great to see planning & work of Whangawehi Catchment management group along the way.

Awesome Ride. Thanks for keeping an eye on us!

Excellent. Well organised & marked. great track.
