On Wednesday the 30th of September, Eastern and Central Charity Trust have accepted to support the proposal put forward several months ago and allocate 170K towards the Whangawehi walkway project.

On Monday the 28th of September, Trevor Telford came to have a look at the work required along the Whangawehi walkway. Trevor runs a local earth moving company and has done a lot of work in the area especially on the hill country.

Pongaroa Station farm Manager Bevan Parker just finished a large scale restoration project with the retirement and establishment of 16 000 plants in 3 gully systems flowing into the Whangawehi stream. Well done Bevan for your ongoing conservation effort.
On Friday the 25th of September 2020, the tendering documents prepared by Logic Solution Ltd have been sent to several specialized contractors.
We are looking forward to receiving their offers by the 16th of October 2020.
On Wednesday the 23d of September 2020, Wairoa District Council granted a resource consent in regards to the construction of a walkway along the Whangawehi river. A big thank you to Hine who has worked tirelessly on this project to make sure we could start before Christmas.
The Whangawehi Catchment Management Group is now in a position to start preparing the beginning of the work. Heritage New Zealand will be a key partner during this project as the area is rich in cultural heritage.

On Monday the 14th of September 2020, the WCMG was officially made the recipient of a government scheme initiated to stimulate the economy post COVID 19. The Plant for Nature scheme was leverage by the Sustainable Business Network, an Auckland based organisation, earlier in the month. After several days of work on Health and Safety, the WCMG was allowed to start inducting 6 FTE. Through the scheme, 6 FTE will be funded for a duration of 8 weeks and will carry out environmental work in Mahia with a focus on the Whangawehi catchment. 10 000 trees will be planted very shortly by the new environmental warriors. They will also follow a series of training to be able to carry out safety new tasks in the very near future.

On Saturday the 12th of September, a small group of volunteers gathered on Pah nui Farm, despite the bad weather to plant 400 natives around the main wetland by the cow shed. Arthur William and his wife Allison came to bless the group and wish them courage for the work ahead of them.
A big thank you to John Mathias Farm Manager for Whangara B5, Arthur William and Allison as well as all the volunteers and the Million Meter Project who have helped us fund raise for the event.

On Wednesday the 9th of September 2020, Wairoa District Council gave the WCMG the go ahead in regards to the construction of a waharoa at the entrance of the Whangawehi walkway. A big thank you to Jared and Tamara who have assisted the group during the building consent (exemption) process.
On Monday the 7th of September 2020, Heritage NZ gave the go ahead to the Whangawehi walkway by granting the WCMG an authority to proceed. The construction of the walkway will avoid several sites identified by Archaeologist Kevin Jones back in 2013. A big thank you to Christine and Kevin for their guidance and support.
