Haere ra Pera

On the 25 th of July 2023, the Whangawehi Catchment Management whanau lost one his key founders. Pera Edwards passed away peacefully surrounded by family and friends.

The WCMG wants to send all their condeleances to Janice, Rachel and the twins. We have been so privileged to work closely with Pera for so many years. Pera was indeed a very community minded man who gave generously to whoever needed a helping hand. During the tangi Janice explained that sometime his generosity was over the top and she had to put her foot down!

Pera was involved in many community based initiatives in Mahia and he will be missed by all. He had a particular connection with his Marae (Kaiuku) where he would spend days mowing lawns and tidying up the place.

We thank him for having the wisdom (with others) to go ahead with the waste water treatment plant in the head waters of the Whangawehi Catchment and initiating a large scale restoration programme along the river. He leaves a legacy of more than 250 000 trees for the generations to come and enjoy.

On behalf of the WCMG, we thank you Pera for your kind heart, your dedication and commitment to enhancing our Taiao.
