Rails are going up

While the tracks are drying up, the Whangawehi team is busy working on the walkway. Extensive spraying has taken place and will be followed up with brush cutting to tidy up certain areas of the track. Gates and rails have being added to the track to secure some parts of the walkway. The next big step will be to gravel the track. We will keep you updated on this as soon as this takes place.

Walkway update

On Tuesday the 19th of October 2021, Nic dropped off some fencing material along the track but was challenged with some wet sections on the farm track. Scott and Sam from Southern Star Trails are facing the same issues but managed to keep going with their repairs work. Several culverts have been added to drain some springs and wet spots encroaching on the track. With the weather improving, we hope that access will be easier which will make the gravelling less challenging. We will keep you in the loop.

Access to the track is still not allowed to the public due to health and Safety risks. A chain was installed at the main entrance way to stop people from entering the walkway.

Walkway update

On Monday the 11th of October 2021, Southern Star Trail was back on site to resume the work. Scott Taylor will spend the next few days fixing the track in different parts where slumps have occurred. Hopefully the weather will be nice and allow the gravelling work to start next week. We are welcoming back the team and are looking forward to finishing the project before the end of the year.
