Hi all,
We’ve received a number of complaints this year regarding the track conditions. The Whangawehi team shares your disappointment; over the past couple of years, we’ve struggled to secure sufficient funding to maintain the track to the standard we aim for, and we sincerely apologise for this.
Unfortunately, the Givealittle page did not generate the level of support we had hoped for. However, we have recently had some success with funding and have now begun maintenance work, starting from the lower sections of the track.
We are optimistic that conditions will improve over the coming weeks.
We ask all track users to take extra care when venturing out, as grass cover can conceal potential hazards. If you are unsure of the track direction at any point, it is safest to turn back rather than risk becoming lost.
With a cyclone approaching, trampers are strongly advised to stop at the 6 km mark and avoid crossing the river.
We are hoping to have the track back into shape within a month.
Thank you for your patience
Whangawehi team
