On Monday the 12th of October 2020, two tendering candidates for the construction of the Whangawehi walkway came for a site visit along the river.

Mike Wilson and Chris McGregor represented QRS while Jeff Carter from Rotorua represented Southern Star Adventure-a Rotorua based company specialized in track construction.
